Summary:

Adele Wells mysteriously disappeared after leaving her grandmother’s house in Flint, Michigan during the late fall of 1958. No one has seen or heard from her since. Although police suspect she was abducted by a stranger, no suspects have been publicly identified in her disappearance. Sadly, Adele’s case remains unsolved.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

Adele was last seen in Flint, Michigan on November 21st 1958. She stayed home from Jefferson Elementary School where she was a second grade student that morning because she had a cold. However, that afternoon she decided to go to school so she left her residence located at 929 East Marengo. On the way there, Adele stopped at her grandmother’s home to show her how her mother had done her hair for school. Adele’s grandmother lived only a block away from her own home at the time. She left her grandmother’s house at 11:30 am and continued to walk to school. Adele never made it to school that day and she didn’t return home either. Her mother reported her missing when she couldn’t find her anywhere that day.

Additional Details:

Police received reports early on in the investigation that indicated Adele was the victim of a kidnapping. Some of Adele’s playmates reported that she was forced into a pink and white car with large tail fins by a man near her house that day but investigators discounted this. Detectives received reliable information that a young man was seen carrying a young girl who matched Adele’s description towards a car on the day she went missing. The man was described as a light skin Black man wearing a gray coat and red socks. The man was driving a dirty black 1948-1950 Chevrolet which was seen parked on Lewis Street near Gilkey Creek. He has not been identified and police have not called him a suspect in Adele’s presumed abduction. According to children who attended Jefferson Elementary School, a man matching that description attempted to lure them into his car in the days before she was reported missing. Sadly, no suspects have been arrested or charged in Adele’s abduction and her case remains unsolved.
