Robert Jones, known as Bobby, was murdered in the small community of Mount Carmel in McCormick County, South Carolina. He was killed in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 23, 1970, between approximately 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Jones was found in his bed with a bedspread pulled over him. He had sustained multiple fatal injuries: he was struck across the bridge of the nose with a pipe, shot six times, and had his throat cut. His clothing was found scattered throughout the community.
