On 1-12-1974 at 2:40 AM, Killeen Police Officers were dispatched to the MOD room in the area of N. 38th Street and E. Veterans Memorial Blvd. (BUS190) about a deceased male. The original caller said that a male was slumped over a steering wheel in a taxi cab. Foul play was determined and the case became cold after several years.

The deceased was identified as 24-year-old Eric Zolan who was found shot to death after a scuffle with an unknown assailant. Robbery may have been the motive and several suspects were identified but the case went cold. He was last seen by his fellow cab drivers leaving the Fort Hood NCO club with a black male. Zolan was wearing a white shirt, a nylon cream-colored pull-over shirt, and green pants.

Specialist Eric Zolan was an active-duty Soldier stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. He was moonlighting with Kelly Cab Company and the U.S. Army full-time. He was described as an introverted person, never in trouble, responsible, and liked by his unit. Zolan was a native of Fairfield, Connecticut.
