Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

Deborah was last seen in Rawlins, Wyoming on the night of August 4th 1974. She lived with her parents and siblings in Red Lodge, Montana but had been sent to Wyoming due to rebellious behavior and her mother was recovering from surgery. Deborah lived with her aunt and worked as a waitress at a local restaurant in Rawlins. On the night of her disappearance, Deborah called her best friend and mentioned she planned to go see a movie at a local theater. She left her aunts home near Seventh and Spruce Streets during the evening to walk to a local movie theater. According to witnesses, Meyer never arrived at the theater and she failed to return home to her aunt. Local authorities initially suspected she had simply run away from her aunt’s home. However, Deborah had no history of running away and wasn’t even known to hitchhike. She never picked up her last paycheck from the restaurant she worked at and she left all of her personal belongings behind. Police now suspect foul play was involved in the case. They believe that Meyer was abducted and probably killed in 1974. She remains missing and her case unsolved.

Additional Details:

Police believe it’s possible Deborah’s case is linked to other mysterious disappearances in the area during that summer. On July 4th 1974, Christy Gross and Carlene Brown disappeared while attending a rodeo at the Carbon County Fairgrounds. They were never seen again. In October 1983, Christy’s skeletal remains were found in a field three miles south of Sinclair, Wyoming. She had been murdered by three blows to the head. Carlene Brown remains missing. On August 23rd 1974, ten year old Jayleen Banker was abducted after she was separated from her friends at the Carbon County Fairgrounds. Despite extensive searches, Banker remained missing for nearly a year. In April 1975, a man walking his dog found Jayleen’s body dumped just outside of Rawlins. She had been killed by a blow to the head. Deborah Meyer is the only girl whose body hasn’t been recovered. Police have named several people as suspects in the cases but no charges were ever filed against anyone. Deborah’s disappearance remains unsolved.
