Summary:
Heidi Peterson was abducted from her front yard in Seattle, Washington in early 1974. For nearly a year, her fate remained a mystery. Eleven months after she had vanished, her body was discovered just a block away from her house where she had been taken. Sadly, Heidi’s killer has never been identified or arrested and her murder remains unsolved.

Circumstances of Offense:
Heidi was last seen in Seattle, Washington on February 21st 1974. She was playing with her younger brother in the front yard of their home located at 2622 Tenth Avenue at 1:30 pm. Her mother last saw her as she was leaving to go to a nearby store. When Heidi’s father came outside fifteen minutes later, the child was gone. When asked what happened to his sister, Heidi’s little brother simply replied with “Heidi go.” No one ever saw her again afterward. Police believe someone abducted Heidi as she played in the front yard. Scent dogs traced her scent which stopped at the curb in front of the house, lending credence to the abduction theory.
Additional Details:
On January 23rd 1975, park department employees were retrieving a trash can from a hill below a scenic bluff in a brushy area and found the bones of a small child inside along with some clothing. The area where the bones were found was only a block away from where Heidi was abducted nearly a year prior. The clothing matched what she was wearing when she disappeared and dental records later confirmed the remains belonged to her. The trash can had been hidden in a blackberry bush which had been searched thoroughly several times after Peterson first disappeared in 1974. Police believe she was abducted and killed shortly afterwards. Sadly, no suspects have been identified or arrested for Heidi’s abduction and murder. Her case remains unsolved.
