Summary:

Marilyn Ruth Qualmann, aged 14, went missing on Sunday 21 September 1975 from Moorook Road, Moorook, South Australia. The last confirmed sighting of her was at about 9.00 am that day by her sister. Police suspect she has been murdered.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

Marilyn had learning difficulties and often stayed in a hostel on weekdays; at weekends she would return to her home where she lived with her mum, stepfather, sister and stepsister. She was last seen at her home on Sunday, 21 September 1975, and was last seen at about 9 am that day by her sister. Police were called the next day by Marilyn's mother who stated that she believed her daughter had run away from home. Marilyn had taken nothing with her, including personal possessions, something police found out of character. While Marilyn had a history of running away from home, she had usually been located in neighbours or friends houses and had always taken things with her.

Additional Details:

Marilyn had lived at Birrallee Hostel at Berri SA and attended Glossop High School. On the weekends she would return home to her parents' home at Moorook. Family and friends searched for Marilyn in the local area but could not find any clue as to where she was. Although some witnesses came forward with sightings of Marilyn none of this could be confirmed. An exhaustive search was conducted of the River Murray at Moorook which did not assist with locating Marilyn. A search of the local area and subsequent widespread investigations failed to provide any indication as to her whereabouts. Investigators believe there was a strong possibility that Marilyn have been murdered or abducted. No trace of the young girl has ever been found.
