On the night of December 22, 1975, Illinois State University student Carol Rofstad and her friend departed a local bar, The Cellar. After walking a short distance, they went their separate ways. Carol was last seen walking towards her home at the Delta Zeta sorority house at 602 S. Fell Street. The next afternoon, a passerby noticed Carol lying next to the sorority house. It was determined she had been beaten with a piece of wood the night before. She was transported to a local hospital where she later passed away on Christmas Eve.
Additional Details:
On July 16th, 1974, Carol was attacked while sleeping in her bedroom at the Delta Zeta sorority house. A man broke into the house at around 3 am by breaking a window in the back door. The man cut a telephone line on the house's first floor before going upstairs to Carol's bedroom. The man put his hand to Carol's throat and she awoke screaming. The man then covered her mouth, lifted her from bed, and threw her against a chest of drawers. He quickly fled the area. Carol suffered a broken nose from the attack. This intruder was never identified.
