Christine Ziomkiewicz was 27 years old when she went missing on June 23, 1978, while working at Queen's University and living alone in a basement apartment on Park Street in Kingston, Ontario. Police found her vehicle, clothing, freshly purchased groceries and a significant amount of cash in her apartment with no signs of struggle. Her whereabouts remain a mystery and her body has not been found.

On the morning of Friday, June 23, 1978, 27-year-old Christine Ziomkiewicz went to work her job as a lab technician at Queen's University, in the Physiology Department inside Abramsky Hall. After work, she took a trip to the grocery store for weekend supplies then she picked out a new sweater at the Kingston Centre. Christine lived at 200 Park Street in the building's basement apartment. She arrived at 7 p.m. and chatted to a neighbour briefly in front of her door. The neighbour noticed she had a bag of groceries tucked under her arm. When the conversation ended, Ziomkiewicz went inside her apartment and shut the door. Over the next few days, Ziomkiewicz had missed her usual weekend visit with her parents, and hadn't called into work. On June 27, 1978 her parents called police to report her missing.

Ziomkiewicz grew up in Kingston with her two brothers, Chris and Bernie. After earning a Bachelor of Science from Brock University, she returned to Kingston in 1974. Her brother remembered Christine working as a don at the YMCA during her time at Brock, assisting people who needed shelter. He said she accepted people and worked with them through difficult times as they put their lives back together. Her parents doggedly searched for their daughter, turning to at least one private investigator and psychic for help within the first year of her disappearance. Their private investigator concluded that Ziomkiewicz had started seeing a new boyfriend shortly before her disappearance, but little came from the revelation. The investigator uncovered evidence that Ziomkiewicz may have had a boyfriend or had started seeing someone about six to eight weeks before she vanished. She had called the man several times daily, most regularly at 10 a.m. Those calls extended through most of May and June. No one in Christine's life knew the man's identity. The private investigator concluded that Christine left her apartment on June 23rd with the man, but this information cannot be verified. Stefan and Joan Ziomkiewicz passed away—Stefan in 2002, and Joan in 2007. Ziomkiewicz's disappearance is one of nine cold cases being investigated by the Kingston Police's Cold Case Unit (CCU). In 2018, Ziomkiewicz's disappearance was one of nine cold cases investigated by the Kingston Police's Cold Case Unit (CCU) - a task force formed in 2005 after the murder of Queen's student Justin Schwieg at A.J.'s Hangar bar (now Ale House). The team spent a year going through Ziomkiewicz's case file in search of potential leads to investigate. Foul play is suspected.
