Ms. Gaylord, 18, was last seen hitchhiking in a southerly direction on Highway 115, south of Colorado Springs on the afternoon of December 11, 1978. On December 12, 1978, her body was discovered alongside Barrett Road, west of Highway 115. The autopsy revealed the cause of death was blunt force trauma.

Peggy Sue Gaylord, 18, was last heard from on December 11, 1978. She may have disappeared while hitchhiking on the southbound side of Highway 115, south of Colorado Springs, that same day. She was reportedly headed to her job at the Star Bar on 9th St. in Penrose, CO. She had previously worked at the Starlite Lounge in Fountain and the Circus Room Bar in Colorado Springs. Gaylord's body was discovered on December 12, 1978 on Barrett Rd., south of Colorado Springs. The Coroner determined her cause of death was a result of blunt force trauma. Gaylord was fully clothed and her purse was located near her body.
