Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

Diane was last seen in Daytona Beach, Florida on June 8th 1979. She lived in an apartment located at 541 Park Drive with her fourteen year old daughter, Tammy Hollins. A neighbor saw the two walking along International Speedway Boulevard between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm that afternoon. Diane didn’t inform her employer of any plans to leave work and she never showed up for work after that day. Tammy also never attended school after that date and neither were ever seen again. It was initially believed that the two might’ve left the area to visit relatives until June 11th. However, no personal belongings were missing from the apartment and Diane had left many behind in the bank. Investigators believe both mother and daughter met with foul play.

Additional Details:

On December 6th 1986, the skull of a young woman along with some clothing was found in a wooded area near County Road 60 near Newington, Georgia. Further investigation revealed the skull belonged to a teenage girl aged between 12 and 17 years old. In July 2013, DNA testing identified the remains as belonging to Tammy Hollins. No trace of Diane was found but police believe she too was killed along with her daughter. Police have named Diane’s ex-boyfriend as the primary suspect in her disappearance and Tammy’s murder. Benjamin Ponder was born in Screven County, Georgia where Tammy’s remains were later found. He also had family ties to the area. Ponder maintained his innocence in the cases until his death in 2009. No one has faced charges for the cases which both remain unsolved.
