A self-employed auto mechanic was shot and killed in his home Monday, apparently while he was asleep, a sheriff's spokesman said. The body of Leroy Arthur Eilers, 34, 7758 Laurel Ave., was discovered on his living room couch. The spokesman said it appeared that he had died of a gunshot wound to the head. Eilers was reportedly sleeping on the couch when his wife, Scheryl, left home at 8:30 a.m. to take their children to school and to visit a friend, said Detective Jim Stalnaker. Eilers was still on the couch when she returned home.
