Summary:
Debra Jean Wienke was a resident at the Douglas Hotel located at 156 Division Street, Elgin, IL 60120. That hotel housed outpatients from the Elgin Mental Health Center. The hotel closed on or about 10-01-1982. Sometime in the fall of 1982, Debra told her family that the hotel was closing and that she planned to move to either Texas or Mexico. She has not been seen or heard from since.

Circumstances of Disappearance:
Debbie was on SSI and was a potentially a vulnerable adult. The Douglas Hotel housed outpatient subjects from the Elgin Mental Health Center and she may have been receiving care from that facility. According to family, Debbie dealt with a lot of trauma and had many breaks with her family. When she disappeared many members believed that she left voluntarily, so they did not report her as missing to law enforcement. Family also reported that they believed that the owners of the Douglas Hotel had convinced her that the family was bad and that she should leave them.
