Charlotte Elaine Heimann was 27 when she vanished in Rochester, NY, on October 30, 1981. She left Rochester Psychiatric Center on an approved four-hour pass and was never seen by her family again. Charlotte Elaine Heimann, 27, disappeared from Rochester, New York, on October 30, 1981. She had been admitted to Rochester Psychiatric Center following an alleged overdose. On October 30, Charlotte was permitted to leave the facility on a four-hour pass, reportedly to pay her rent. She reportedly told a nurse that she was afraid of a man, and it was later reported that a man had come to the facility looking for her. Charlotte left the hospital and never returned. Charlotte’s purse was later found at her apartment, and her checks were never cashed. Her mother attempted to report her missing, but a formal missing-person report was not filed until November 25, 1981—26 days after Charlotte went missing. Charlotte has never been found, and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain unresolved.

Her case remains unsolved. Charlotte had overcome incredible odds, survived a serious accident which resulted in a pin being surgically inserted in her right leg, and worked tirelessly toward a better life for herself and her daughter. Shyla Jump,her granddaughter, has been searching for answers for a decade. She was 18 when she dug into the case initially . Jump now holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and an associate's degree in social services and criminal justice. She has a decade of experience in child welfare, working with law enforcement and the courts. She launched an independent investigation into Heimann's disappearance. There was a very big lead and it showed a lot of progress towards the answers they were looking for. The Rochester Police Department said it hasn't had an active lead in the case in quite some time. In October 2025, there were and still are promising leads towards solving her case. It will take the public coming forward with the truth, to help solve her case.

Present — Charlotte Elaine Heimann remains missing, and her family continues investigating her disappearance, preserving evidence and records, pursuing investigative leads and advocating for renewed law-enforcement attention to her case.
March 31, 2026 — Shyla attempted to contact the FBI concerning information developed during her investigation of Charlotte’s case.
Ground-penetrating radar was subsequently used to examine areas of interest.
Excavation was later conducted in areas identified during the family-led investigation.
Material recovered during the investigation was examined by Dr. Arpad Vass, who provided the family with his assessment regarding material potentially consistent with dry bone, adipocere and bone ash.
July 2025 — Shyla and others conducted investigative work connected to a property believed to warrant further examination in relation to Charlotte’s disappearance.
July 2025 — Shyla traveled to Rochester and publicly advocated for renewed attention to Charlotte’s case.
July 8, 2025 — Family and supporters held a rally outside the Rochester Police Department seeking answers and additional investigation into Charlotte’s disappearance.
Forty years later, her granddaughter, Shyla Jump, traveled to Rochester from Cincinnati, searching for clues and answers.
2025 — Charlotte’s granddaughter, Shyla Jump, began an extensive independent investigation into Charlotte’s disappearance.
November 25, 1981 — Charlotte’s mother, Alice, formally reported Charlotte missing to the Rochester Police Department, 26 days after Charlotte disappeared.
She was not reported missing until November 25, 1981.
October 30, 1981 — Charlotte was granted a four-hour pass from Rochester Psychiatric Center and was expected to return afterward.
October 1981 — Following the overdose, Charlotte was admitted to Rochester Psychiatric Center
October 22, 1981 — Charlotte experienced an alleged overdose and an alleged suicide note was reportedly recovered.
Heimann left the hospital on a four-hour pass, saying she had to go pay her rent. She has never been heard from again.
