Offense Location:

Titusville, Florida

Summary:

Amanda Griffin was apparently abducted while she was playing near her apartment complex in Titusville, Florida during the summer of 1984. Three days later, her body was found in a water filled ditch and tests showed she had been sexually abused before being suffocated by her abductor. Sadly, Amanda’s killer has never been apprehended and her case remains unsolved.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Offense:

Amanda was last seen in Titusville, Florida on August 4th 1984. She left her family’s apartment at Forest Park South Apartments located at 515 Rock Pit Road at approximately 5:45 pm and was seen playing with a frog before mysteriously vanishing without a trace. Police and volunteers searched extensively for the girl but found no trace of her. There were no witness reports of Amanda being abducted or wandering away so investigators had minimal clues from the start. They speculate that someone lured Amanda into a vehicle near her home and took her from the area.

Additional Details:

On August 7th 1984, the naked decomposing body of a small child was found lying in a water-filled ditch near the Sunshine Auto Salvage Co. on U.S. Highway 50 by an employee cutting grass. The victim had been sexually assaulted and suffocated to death. The body was quickly identified as belonging to Griffin. Amanda had gone to a chain grocery store and got her fingerprints taken as part of a “missing child” program which many other parents had their children do around the United States. They were used to identify her. Amanda’s clothing was never found which leads police to believe her killer kept them or discarded them elsewhere. Sadly, no arrests have ever been made in Amanda Griffin’s murder.
