Mickey was seen at her favorite hangouts at 24th and Leavenworth that night. Witnesses in Hummel Park the evening of July 8th, 1984 saw Mickey screaming for help at the side of a blue car. Her body was found in a ditch in Ponca Hills on July 9th, north of Hummel Park. To detectives, it appeared that Michelle "Mickey" LaMere was a victim of a late night hit-and-run.
Additional Details:
In 1984, Mickey was a mom to a little boy. Her sister Jackie LaMere was a year older than Mickey. Investigators stated that with advances in DNA technology and sciences, they had evidence that had been preserved which could be retested to hopefully develop a profile of the suspect. As of February 2026, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office has re-examined the cold case, with deputy Colin Driscoll working on the investigation.
