Summary:

Rosario Cuetos Cruz is a Spanish woman born in 1949 who disappeared in 1983. She was the mother of three young children who were abandoned at a Barcelona train station on April 22, 1984. Her whereabouts remain unknown after last contact with family in May 1983.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

Rosario and her partner Ramón Martos Sánchez had maintained constant communication with family members, but this stopped in May 1983, when they disappeared with their children. They were later abandoned in the Estación de Francia in Barcelona a year later. On April 22, 1984, a railway worker at the Estació de França train station in Barcelona noticed a two-year-old girl crying. The girl, named Elvira, was accompanied by her 4- and 5-year-old brothers, and no one else. When the worker asked what was wrong, 5-year-old Ramón explained that they had been left there by their father's friend, who claimed he was going to get candy, but never returned.

Additional Details:

Rosario Cuetos Cruz and her partner Ramón Martos Sánchez, Spaniards with criminal records for burglary and counterfeiting, fled Spain in 1978 after a police shootout and were last known to be in Paris in 1983. They lived in many different places, moving between Paris and Toulouse in France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Spain. The exact year of their arrival in France is unknown, but documentation turned up recording that their son was born in the region of Paris in June 1978, so it seems likely they arrived there in 1977 or early 1978. Her partner's own brother had disowned him because he beat Rosario. He was also a womanizer. Given the amount of time that has passed, it seems unlikely that Rosario and her partner are still alive. Family members knew that her partner had been ill in the time leading up to their disappearance, and it's possible that his death led to the children's abandonment. The three siblings confirmed their adoptive mother's suspicions about their parents' involvement in crime: Ramón Sr. had been a burglar, and the family lived in many different places, moving between Paris and Toulouse in France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Spain. The case has been featured in the Disney+ documentary series "Abandonados" (2026), which tells the story of three siblings abandoned in Barcelona in 1984 as they search for their parents.
