Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Offense:
Beverley was last seen alive on 31 October 1984 when she left Heathrow Airport where she worked as a cleaner at 8pm. A workmate reported that she mentioned she was heading out to meet a new boyfriend that night and had promised to show pictures of him the next day, but never turned up to work. In the days before Halloween, she was seen with three unidentified companions—one woman and two men—at the now-closed Byron pub in North London. A neighbour reported seeing Beverley with an 'attractive' man in the days before 31 October 1984, who was of significant interest to the investigation. On 29 November 1984, police forced entry into her council bedsit-flat at Farman Grove, Northolt, after her mother reported being unable to contact her. Inside, officers found Beverley lying on the floor of her living room with a kitchen knife plunged through her heart. The flat showed no signs of forced entry and no note was found.
Additional Details:
Police initially considered whether the death might have been a suicide, but later determined it was a murder inquiry. The investigation revealed that Beverley's personal diaries and belongings were missing from the flat, adding to the mystery. Her white Volkswagen Beetle with red doors (registration TXG 121H), which she described as 'her pride and joy', was seen being driven around the area the day after she was killed. The case was featured on BBC Crimewatch UK in October 1985. During the reconstruction, investigators described a man seen in Beverley's flat as approximately 35 years old with grey swept back hair. Police also noted she had a boyfriend in Spain where she made regular trips, and had recently started seeing a new English boyfriend around the beginning of November. They provided only a vague description of the new boyfriend—a white man in his forties—and appealed for him to come forward, but he was never publicly identified. Police extended their investigation to Spain but ultimately found no leads. The case remains unsolved, with no arrests made. As of 2021, more than 36 years later, police still had no leads on who murdered Beverley or why. Beverley was described by acquaintances as a quiet, private woman and a bit of a recluse. She was a language student learning Spanish at Pinkwell adult education centre in Hayes.
