Summary:

Chad Thompson was apparently abducted by a stranger while he was walking to play with friends in Buffalo, New York during the fall of 1985. Despite a nearly three year long search, he was never found. In 1988, Chad’s skeletal remains and clothing were recovered from a field in Amherst, New York by construction workers. His cause of death could not be determined but police suspect he was abducted and murdered. No one has been arrested or charged in the case and Chad’s death remains a mystery.

Circumstances of Offense:

Chad Thompson was last seen in his Langfield Drive neighborhood in Buffalo, New York on October 7th 1985. He left his home on Wende Street and planned to go to the School 82 playground on Weston Avenue to play with friends. Chad never arrived according to his friends. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the boy enter a two door burgundy colored car at 6:00 pm that day driven by an unidentified white male. He has never been seen or heard from again.

Additional Details:

On May 19th 1988, construction workers who were clearing a field in Amherst, New York on Maple and Transit Roads discovered the remains of a small child. The bones were found to be those of a young boy and had likely been buried at the location for approximately 1-2 years. Investigators immediately suspected the remains were those of Chad and his dental records were found to be a match several days later. The clothing found with the remains was consistent with the clothes that Thompson was reportedly last wearing. Police suspect that Chad was abducted and killed elsewhere before his killer buried his remains in the field. Sadly, his murder remains unsolved.
