Summary:

Dawn disappeared from Ridgecrest, California during the late summer of 1988. For many years, it was believed she had run away from home. A year and a half after she disappeared, Dawn’s skeletal remains were located in San Bernardino County, California. There weren’t identified until over two decades later. Dawn is believed to have been murdered and her case remains unsolved.

Circumstances of Death:

Dawn was last seen in at her family’s home in Ridgecrest, California on August 2, 1988. Police classified her disappearance as a runaway situation and suspected she left voluntarily. There were reported sightings of Higdon in New York City which occurred in 1993. Other reports placed her in the Vancouver area of British Columbia, Canada. She was never heard from again by anyone she knew.

Additional Details:

On July 13th 1990, human skeletal remains were located in San Bernardino County, California. On March 4th 2009, DNA testing positively identified the remains as belonging to Dawn Higdon. It’s unclear how exactly she died or whether foul play was involved.
