Summary:
On the evening of 1/19/88, 19-year-old Susan Swedell had left work and stopped at a gas station close to her house during a blizzard. Susan was experiencing car troubles and was allowed to leave her car at the station. She was next seen getting into a car with an unknown subject after they had pulled up by her. Susan has not been seen since.
Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
During a phone call with Susan's mom prior to leaving work, her mom suggested a route home that included Stillwater Blvd as the safest route home. They were concerned about the blizzard storm and Susan's job (K-Mart) was sending employees home early. Susan appeared to have taken that route which went by the gas station. Susan's car was a maroon Cutlass Supreme. It was found at the gas station the following day by deputies where she left it and it was brought home. The car was found locked with her purse, keys and glasses inside. Family needed to use the car later in the week and noticed that it wasn't working. A mechanic looking at the car identified a possible concern with the petcock plug at the base of the radiator. The petcock allows the coolant to drain out of the radiator and would not commonly get opened accidentally without improper installation or direct manipulation. The unidentified male was described as a white male with sandy brown shoulder length hair. He was wearing a stocking cap and a leather jacket. The suspect vehicle she got into was described as an older model full-sized two-door car, light-colored or cream-ish colored, "mag wheels" and a sporty look. It was said to be in good shape but dirty. Follow up investigation with the gas station attendant witness iterated a 1979 Ford LTD or late '70s Thunderbird as having a similar look as the suspect vehicle and that it could have been dark colored.
Additional Details:
Susan worked two jobs at the mall: a boutique (Body and Soul) and K-Mart. Susan had a clothing change from a red shirt and red pants to an outfit with a knee length skirt on the day she went missing. She also had a black winter jacket.
