Summary:
During the evening hours of Friday, 09-02-1988, 7 year old Cortney Clayton walked to a convenience store one block from her residence in Stamford, Texas. Cortney was last seen alive leaving the store and was not located after a search of the town was conducted the same evening.

Circumstances of Offense:
On Sunday, 03-26-1989, Cortney's remains were discovered in a field approximately 50 miles from her home. A hunter found the child’s remains on a country road between Albany and Moran, and testing confirmed they belonged to Cortney. Cortney was a student at Oliver Elementary School in Stamford, which had a population just under 4,000. Cortney was survived by her parents and two brothers.
