Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
After Stacie and her friend, Susan Smalley, left The Steak and Ale restaurant during the early morning hours on Sunday, March 20, 1988, they drove in Stacie's car to the Webb Chapel Village parking lot located at the intersection of Webb Chapel Road and Forest Lane in Dallas, Texas. There, police believe the girls met a person or persons they knew and willfully left the area with them in another vehicle. Two days later after being reported missing, on Tuesday, March 22, 1988, Stacie's pale yellow 1967 Ford Mustang was found abandoned in the Webb Chapel Village parking lot. The vehicle was locked and contained the personal belongings of both girls that were left undisturbed.
Additional Details:
Susan's ex-boyfriend at the time, Kevin Elrod, was named as a person of interest. Several months after the girl's disappearance he allegedly made statements to his then-girlfriend that he had killed Susan and Stacie dumping their bodies in Ritter Cemetery located in Lewisville, Texas. Kevin denied making those statements. Authorities searched the area but found nothing. Kevin underwent and passed a polygraph. Authorities have maintained that Kevin was not properly ruled out as a suspect. Kevin moved out-of-state from Texas and may be known as Kevin Ray Slater. Authorities from Carrollton Police and Dallas Police never conducted forensic examinations of the vehicle for reasons unknown. The initial investigative team theorized the girls were runaways.
