Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

On March 18, 1990, Dannette and Jeannette Millbrook walked to the local Church's Chicken on Laney Walker Boulevard. When they returned, they informed their mother, Louise, that a man in a van had followed them for part of their walk. Nothing further is known about this man. Later in the day, the twins walked to their godfather's house to borrow money for a city bus to school the following week, as the teens and their family had recently moved to a new apartment further from their school. They stopped at a gas station, bought some chips and a drink and then left together. The twins were last known to have been seen by a gas station clerk at the Pump-N-Shop gas station on the corner of 12th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard around 4:30 pm. They have never been heard from again.

Additional Details:

When the family could not locate the girls that evening, Louise called the police. Louise was informed by the Richmond County Sheriff's Office that filing a missing person report would require her to wait at least twenty-four hours. Louise managed to register a missing persons report for each of her daughters on the evening of March 19. The initial response from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office to the March 18, 1990, disappearance of the 15-year-old African American twins involved classifying them as runaways, despite reports from family indicating no prior history of such behavior and their expected quick return after visiting relatives. Not long after Jeannette and Dannette disappeared, their names were removed from the national registry of missing children without any reason given. Their casefile was closed, and the original police records were lost. The investigation didn't begin again for more than twenty years. Their case was closed in 1991 and was reopened in 2013. In 2017, Laurah Norton decided to make a podcast focusing on cases that had received little attention and had victims from underserved or marginalized communities. She first decided to focus on the Millbrook twins after hearing an episode of Thin Air discussing their case. Together with producer Brooke Gently-Hargrove, she launched The Fall Line on June 12, 2017. The producers of the podcast The Fall Line have taken an active role in the search for Dannette and Jeannette, and helped raise a $10,000 reward. There is $50,000 reward being offered for information through August 2023. DNA of Dannette and Jeannette has been entered into the national database. In November 2025, Shanta Sturgis, the twins' sister, said she was contacted by a private investigator working on the case. He told her the body of a Jane Doe found in Louisiana in 1993 matched her sister Jeanette's description and sent her a photo. As of early 2025, the new Richmond County Sheriff, Eugene Brantely, plans to open up a cold case group, dedicated to finding out what happened to Jeannette and Dannette.
