Audie was found shot in the back of the head in his home on 3/2/1991. An autopsy ruled the death a homicide and no suspects have been charged in the crime.

Circumstances of Offense:

Audie was found face down on a bedroom floor around 8pm on March 2. His sister, Sharon Porter, had gone to check on him after he failed to show up at an expected location. A .357 Magnum was found on the bedroom floor. Initially, the death was thought to be a suicide. During the autopsy, it was determined that the point of impact for the gunshot was behind Audie's right ear. Possible investigative paths include DNA processing of the recovered firearm.

Additional Details:

Audie was a member of the Largemouth Bass Masters, B.A.S.S Masters and the Swamp Fox Bass Masters of Loris. He was married to Sandra Martin Burroughs and was employed in his family business: Burroughs Sprayer Manufacturing Co. of Loris.
