Chandra was a college student, and worked at a clothing boutique called Body Gear that was located in the 5000 block of Beltline Road in Addison, Texas. On July 29th, 1992, Chandra's body was discovered in the Body Gear store, she had been stabbed to death during a robbery at the Body Gear Clothing Boutique.

Payton’s killer still hasn’t been found. It has also been stated by others who worked with Payton, that it was not a robbery as they kept little cash on hand. Addison police have a person of interest in the case but lack the evidence to press charges, spokesman David Margulies said. They are continuing to look at physical evidence with new technology but need more witnesses to come forward, he said.
