Summary:

Christine Starrine Byrd was a 42-year-old woman who disappeared from her home in Tyler, Texas on May 27, 1992. She vanished while cooking food that was left on the stove, with no signs of forced entry. Investigators believe her disappearance may be connected to the murder of 8-year-old Chad Choice; she is presumed deceased but her body has never been found and her case remains unsolved.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

On May 27, 1992, Christine Starrine Byrd disappeared from her residence located at 2405 Pineburr in Tyler, Texas. At the time of her disappearance, food was left cooking on the stove. There were no signs of forced entry at her residence. Her last known contact was May 22, 1992. She was wearing a yellow shirt, blue denim shorts, and approximately $25,000 worth of jewelry including a diamond-encrusted bracelet, two diamond rings, and a diamond pin. She has never been heard from again.

Additional Details:

Authorities believe Byrd's disappearance could be related to the murder of 8-year-old Ernest Chadwick 'Chad' Choice, who was kidnapped from his bedroom in November 1991. Patrick Horn, a friend of Chad's older brother, was convicted of Chad's capital murder in 1997 and was sentenced to death, though his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment due to his age at the time of the crime (he was 17). Investigators stated Horn had been a suspect in Byrd's disappearance since shortly after she vanished, believing she may have known something about Chad Choice's murder and was killed as a result. Christopher Wells, an associate of Horn's, has been identified as potentially involved in moving Byrd's remains, though he has not been charged in her case. Both Horn and Wells are serving life sentences. Police have investigated several leads, including searching for Christine at Bellwood Lake. A 2003 news report indicated investigators had received new leads and were hopeful about finding her body. Her disappearance remains unsolved. Her daughters have continued to advocate for the case and seek justice for their mother.
