Missing From:
Inala, Queensland
Summary:
Chad Sutton, 16, and his sister Melony Sutton, 14, vanished on November 23, 1992, from their home in Inala, Brisbane. The siblings secretly planned to hitchhike across the country to Perth to see their father. Chad and Melony have not been seen or heard from since.
Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
On November 23, 1992, Chad and Melony left their home at 7 Jabiru Street, Inala, to walk to school, with their mother Maree saying goodbye to them when they left. Chad and his sister Melony left their Inala Queensland home at 8:35am, walking to school as they had missed the bus. After leaving home, Chad and Melony dropped off their younger brother George at school and left, not attending school that day. It was later learnt they intended to hitchhike to Perth, however they didn't have any money or clothing with them.
Additional Details:
Ground searches across Brisbane were conducted in the months following Chad and Melony's disappearance, but no trace of them has ever been found. In April 1993, a friend claimed Chad called him several times between November and December from Sydney and Adelaide, but police were unable verify the calls through phone records or find anyone who had picked the teenagers up. Chad and Melony were driven to breaking point after months of bashings at the hands of three violent bullies, with beatings occurring outside the Suttons' house in full view of others, and they disappeared days after Chad lashed out at one of his tormentors with a baseball bat. Police have long feared the siblings were kidnapped and killed, and not runaways as was initially believed, with Detective Senior Sergeant Damien Powell confirming Ivan Milat was among a number of killers who could be responsible for the pair's deaths. It is believed they passed via the Belanglo State Forest. Age progressed images of Chad and Melony were released to show the public how they may look today, aged 41 and 39 years.
