Houston, Texas
Summary:
Juan Jose Guevara is wanted for the capital murder of 17-year-old Ruben Ruiz.
Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Offense:
Ruben was driving when a truck pulled in front of him at an intersection. Two suspects got out of truck and demanded Ruben’s car and money at gunpoint. Ruben tried to drive away which is when the suspects shot him to death. Sketches were made of the suspects, and in September of 1993, they were identified as allegedly being Juan Jose Guevara and Genaro Cruz. Warrants were then issued for both teenagers who are believed to have returned to Mexico. No photo has been publicized of Genaro Cruz, although one presumably exists but has not been publicized because of the age of the case and that this crime occurred pre-internet. Additionally, Juan and Genaro are potential suspects in a crime spree dating back to 1990 that terrorized Houston hispanics. This is based on similar a modus operandi as well as similar suspect descriptions. The last two crimes occurred the same night that Ruben was killed. - A murder in 1990 during a robbery of a Mexican restaurant. - Two rapes in 1991, one of the survivors was a 15-year-old girl. - Another robbery of a Mexican restaurant in 1992. A 65-year-old man and his 12-year-old grandson were wounded. - The robbery of a 17-year-old girl at gunpoint. - The armed carjacking and pistol-whipping of an 18-year-old man. As of this posting, Juan and Genaro have active warrants in Harris County’s court records database and are not in custody.
Additional Details:
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Juan Jose Guevara and/or Genaro Cruz should contact Crime Stoppers Of Houston 713-222-TIPS (8477). Juan and Genaro should be considered extremely dangerous. Please consider sharing this so that Ruben’s family can get justice and answers in their loved one’s case.
