Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Offense:
Within 20 minutes of Kayla and Tanya arriving at the bar, Kayla was missing. Tanya searched the bar and surrounding area but could not find Kayla. Their mom joined the search and police got involved. Two weeks later, on November 6, 1994, Kayla’s body was discovered in an abandoned house about 40 feet from the road near Elysian Fields, Texas, about 22 miles away from from where she was last seen. Kayla’s body was found in a garbage bag bound by rope and sheer curtains, partially clothed and barely recognizable due to decomposition. There has been speculation that her murder may have been committed by locals because of the location of the abandoned house. Some hunters used the house as a deer stand. Harrison County (Texas side) investigators questioned 30 people, but didn’t gain any leads. Shreveport Police investigated numerous suspects. Kayla’s autopsy showed that she was raped and strangled. Kayla’s license that she had on her has never been found.
