Darryl Patrick Goggans, 61, was arrested on June 10, 2025, and is facing a charge of capital murder. During a recent review of evidence, a sample was tested and yielded a DNA profile. That profile was entered into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), which resulted in the positive identification of Goggans. During the June 11 news conference, investigators didn't get into many details about the evidence or how Goggans was found, but said he was in Lancaster, Texas when he was arrested and brought to Irving. Goggans was her next-door neighbor at the time of the murder, investigators say.

Megan was a resident of Walnut Hill Ln in North Irving where was found dead in her apartment. Megan's lifeless body lying face down in the living room. She had been stabbed multiple times. Detectives working on the case theorize that Megan likely knew her attacker, as there were no signs of forced entry. The apartment was ransacked, suggesting a possible motive related to a search for something specific. Megan, who had battled addiction in the past, had managed to maintain her sobriety for five years. During this time, she devoted herself to helping others overcome similar struggles. Base don't on that information, Irving Police detectives say many individuals with drug and/or alcohol addictions were around Megan and could have wanted to take advantage of her.

Megan was a reliable employee who always showed up at work so on October 5th, 1994 when Megan hadn’t arrived for her shift her employer would call her apartment complex and ask them to please check on her. An employee at the Apple apartments complex would knock on Megan’s door and when she didn’t answer they would go to the balcony door shimmy it open and find Megan lifeless in her living room.
Additional Details:
When investigators arrived The apartment showed obvious signs of a struggle and that Megan had been stabbed and suffered blunt force trauma. Her purse and its contents were scattered across the living room floor. Investigators stated it looked as if someone was looking for something specific. Investigators would find traces of blood on the railing to Megan’s bedroom and a partial palm print.
