21-year-old Michelle Burchell was last seen at the home she shared with her parents in Bardwell, Kentucky. Michelle was living there with her two young children: Amanda, age 1, and Trent, age 3. Michelle's boyfriend, Marc, is the father of her youngest child, Amanda. Marc picked Michelle up on the morning of Friday May 27, 1994, to take her to a nearby town to buy a car. Marc returned home, but Michelle has not been seen since.

Circumstances of Disappearance:
According to family members, Marc was not permitted at the Burchell residence due to prior threats made toward Michelle. As a result, when Michelle wished to meet with Marc, he would pick her up at a location near the home—specifically, a nearby railroad track. On the morning of her disappearance, Marc reportedly picked Michelle up at the railroad track with the stated intention of traveling to a nearby town to look at a vehicle for purchase. During the trip, Marc claims an argument occurred regarding child support. He stated to law enforcement that following the argument, he drove Michelle back to the railroad track and dropped her off. According to Marc, this was the last time he saw her.

At the time Michelle was pregnant with her daughter Amanda, another woman was also pregnant by Marc. According to this individual, she did not personally inform Marc of the pregnancy; however, one of her friends disclosed the information to him. Upon learning of the pregnancy, Marc proposed marriage. The two were married shortly after she gave birth. She reports that on the night she gave birth, Marc dropped her off at the hospital and then went to a party, leaving her to deliver the baby alone. This timeline indicates that Marc was involved with both women concurrently for over a year. Furthermore, records confirm that Marc was still legally married at the time of Michelle Burchell’s disappearance. Following Michelle’s disappearance, her personal belongings—including her purse, keys, and some loose coins—were discovered by a jogger, partially burned on a dead-end road in a neighboring county. Additional items found at the scene included a shovel, a pickaxe, and a tool handle. Despite a thorough search of the area, no further evidence was recovered. It is also significant to note that Marc has been named as a suspect in multiple other homicide investigations in various states.
