Julie Finley, 23, was murdered in Liverpool on August 5, 1994. Her naked body was discovered in a field near Rainford, St Helens on August 6, 1994. She had been strangled and her clothing was never recovered. Her killer remains unidentified despite numerous appeals and investigations.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Offense:

Julie disappeared from Liverpool city centre on 5th August 1994. She was last seen alive at the back of the Royal Liverpool University Hospital whilst talking to a white man who was believed to be aged in his 20s or 30s. She was last seen at about 11.05pm on Friday 5 August 1994, in Pembroke Place, at the rear of the Liverpool Royal University Teaching Hospital talking to a man by some railings. Another witness saw someone matching Julie's description at around 2.30 am on Saturday, August 6. He said that he saw a young woman arguing with a man outside the Wheatsheaf Public House, close to where Julie's body was found. The witness said that the man was trying to force the young woman into a white transit van. Her naked body was discovered the following day in a field close to a lay-by in Rainford, St Helens. She had been strangled, stripped and left face down in a field just metres away from a busy dual carriageway.

Additional Details:

Shortly after Julie was found, a friend of hers named Tina called the police, telling them that on the night of the murder, Julie said that she was going to meet a taxi driver from the Prescot area. A large scale murder investigation would go on to recover some of the victim's clothes over 13 miles away, in addition to a number of key witnesses – one of whom claimed to have found a nude woman in the back of a van pleading for help at the place and time the murder occurred. Twenty people have been arrested in connection with this crime over the years, but no-one has been charged. There was a description of the perpetrator's vehicle which was described as a D-reg Ford Transit van. Her father sadly passed away without ever seeing justice for his daughter. Julie's mother, Patricia Finley has said she will not rest until her daughters killer is caught and brought to justice. Crimestoppers has launched a new appeal in a 27-year-old murder investigation that has been linked to taxi driver Christopher Halliwell. Notorious convicted killer Christopher Halliwell was actually living in nearby Aughton at the time of Julie's murder, which is about 4 miles away from where her body was dumped. The witness that came forward with this information also advised that Halliwell worked in north Wales at the time fitting windows during the week, and drove a white D-reg Ford Transit van.
