Pine Bluff, Arkansas

Summary:

Cleashindra Hall was an 18-year-old honors student from Pine Bluff, Arkansas, just two weeks away from high school graduation when she disappeared on May 9, 1994, after leaving her part-time clerical job at Dr. Larry Amos's home office. She remains missing after more than 31 years, and investigators suspect foul play by someone she knew and trusted.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

On the evening of May 9, 1994, Cleashindra was driven to her after-school job at Dr. Larry Amos's home office located at 5309 Faucett Road in Pine Bluff by her mother, Laurell Hall. At approximately 8:00 p.m., Cleashindra called her mother from work to ask if anyone had tried to reach her at home. She told her mother she was not ready to be picked up yet and promised to call back after she clocked out at 8:30 p.m. Laurell fell asleep while waiting for the second call. She woke at approximately 1:00 a.m. on May 10, 1994, and realized her daughter had never called and had not returned home. When Laurell contacted Dr. Amos, he stated that Cleashindra had clocked out at 8:30 p.m. and was picked up by an unknown individual in a vehicle. Dr. Amos said he could not provide a description of either the person or the vehicle. Cleashindra was last seen wearing a white shirt and shorts set with navy blue polka dots on the shorts and blue stripes on the shirt, white socks, white athletic shoes, and a white ponytail holder, with small stud earrings.

Additional Details:

Cleashindra Hall was an honors student at Watson Chapel High School, ranked as the top student in her graduating class, and was scheduled to deliver the commencement address at her graduation. She had attended her senior prom in May 1994 and was excited about her future. She had been accepted into Tennessee State University's pre-med program and had secured a summer internship at a Boston pediatrician's office. She was known to her family and friends as 'Clea' and was described as a responsible, reliable young woman with no history of running away, always checking in with her parents even when out past curfew. She did not have a boyfriend at the time of her disappearance. Police initially treated her case as a possible runaway because she was legally an adult at 18, delaying more intensive investigation efforts. Laurell Hall called police the morning after her daughter disappeared but was told she had to wait 24 hours to file a missing persons report, which she did at 5 p.m. on May 10. The family conducted their own search and distributed flyers throughout Pine Bluff while police eventually became more involved. Two weeks after her disappearance, police conducted a voluntary search of Dr. Amos's property without a warrant, which was not extensive, and Amos later asked them to leave. Investigators questioned Cleashindra's boyfriend, who took a polygraph test with inconclusive results. Dr. Amos was questioned but refused to take a polygraph test. In March 2011, based on new information from two witnesses who reported seeing blood at the house, police executed a search warrant on the Amos residence and confiscated insulation and drywall samples. However, initial reports showed no blood evidence on the items, and more forensic testing did not yield conclusive results. The Pine Bluff Police Department later acknowledged that many mistakes were made during the initial stages of the investigation. Cleashindra's mother has expressed frustration that police did not search the Amos home immediately, believing he had time to discard evidence. The case generated significant media attention over the years, including coverage by CNN, NBC News Dateline, Nancy Grace, and America's Most Wanted. Investigators from the Arkansas State Police and FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit have been involved in the investigation. Laurell Hall has worked tirelessly to keep her daughter's case in the public eye through annual memorial events, balloon releases with photographs and information, and maintaining pink ribbons and flyers at the family's home. In 2016, the family established a scholarship fund in Cleashindra's name to support students pursuing careers in medicine, honoring her dream of becoming a pediatrician. The case remains unsolved and classified as active.
