Circumstances of Offense:
On April 10, 1998, a resident of Sharon, Massachusetts, contacted police after their dog brought home a human bone from the woods. Investigators determined that it was a human femur, and a search of the nearby woods uncovered additional bones and a decomposed skeleton wrapped in quilts. He had been shot at least twice in the back of the head in what was described as an "execution-style" killing. Investigators received information shortly after the discovery suggesting that the remains belonged to Wang, who had reportedly been murdered in Boston's Chinatown in June 1996. Further investigations uncovered evidence linking his murder to an apartment in Chinatown, where traces of his blood were found. According to a retired Sharon Police detective, authorities later obtained a DNA sample from Wang's mother in China which confirmed his identity. However, the exact date of identification remains unknown, and his name was not publicly disclosed until Bellingcat published an article on the case on August 31, 2026. In response to Bellingcat's questions, a spokesman for the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office told Bellingcat that the circumstances surrounding the remains of an adult male discovered in Sharon in April 1998 “remain under investigation” by a state police detective assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Unsolved Case Unit. The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said it did not have records for Wang’s murder. “Unfortunately, after a thorough search with assistance from our homicide unit, no responsive records could be located,” it said.
Additional Details:
Wang was born in Fujian Province, China, and later migrated to the United States without documentation. He was granted political asylum and provided a New York City address to immigration authorities during a meeting in Boston in 1994. Police suspected he was associated with the Boston faction of the Fukienese Flying Dragons organized crime group. Wang later lived in Vermont, where he worked at a Chinese restaurant called Men-at-Wok until he was injured in a car accident in May 1996. On June 9, 1996, Wang was arrested in Boston after attempting to use credit cards stolen during a home invasion in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, to purchase jewelry and electronics. During police questioning, he stated that he urgently needed money to send to his family in China. He was released on bail after pleading not guilty and was last seen alive in Boston's Chinatown on June 13. Wang was reported missing to the Quincy Police Department on June 21. Investigators believed he had been murdered by associates of the Fukienese Flying Dragons shortly after his arrest, as they considered him a risk to the gang.
