Summary:

Carolyne Ann Jackson, 50, was an antique jewellery dealer who ran Kings Chase Antiques from her rented home at Apple Tree Cottage in Wooburn Green, Buckinghamshire. She was found tied up, beaten, and asphyxiated in her kitchen on April 13, 1997, after returning from abroad. Her murder remains unsolved.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Offense:

Carolyne Ann Jackson returned to her home on the evening of April 11, 1997, after a trip abroad. Police believed she was attacked at approximately 10 p.m. as she was unloading her Toyota Lexus car in the gravel drive and going into her house. She was wearing a fawn ankle-length raincoat, a red cardigan and skirt, diamond pattern navy tights, and navy shoes. At 9:30 p.m. on April 11, she had withdrawn cash from a bank in Penn Road, Beaconsfield. Her body was discovered by a friend who called at the cottage at 8:30 a.m. on April 13 (Sunday). She was found tied up in her kitchen, having been beaten about the head and asphyxiated. Police believed she had been beaten in an attempt to force her to provide the code to her safe, where she kept a large amount of jewellery. However, police were unable to open the safe to determine whether anything had been taken.

Additional Details:

Carolyne Ann Jackson had previously complained to police at least twice about being stalked. In February 1997, she reported being followed by a vehicle near her home and later saw a man standing outside her house. Police searched the area around her house with tracker dogs but found no trace of the man. Police believed she had been targeted by someone who knew about the valuable jewellery she kept, suggesting the person may have been watching her home for several days or weeks beforehand. She had installed an alarm system at her home, indicating she was security-conscious. Police investigated possible links between her murder and that of Janet Brown, a 50-year-old nurse murdered at her farmhouse in Radnage, Buckinghamshire, two years earlier in similar circumstances. Superintendent Partridge stated there were certain similarities between the cases but no strong links to indicate the killer was the same person. In 1998, the mother of the victim (then 75 years old) from Maidenhead enlisted the help of a psychic medium, Sally Jane Danter, sending personal items belonging to her daughter. The medium's report suggested the victim died at the hands of a woman, with a man accompanying her but not participating in the killing. The mother also hoped for recovery of a gold 1930s Cartier bracelet that was taken from her daughter's wrist during the murder, which the medium claimed was placed in a Barclays Bank safe deposit box and later put up for sale. The case remains unsolved.
