On Saturday June 1, 1998, at 4:15 a.m. officers with the Omaha Police Department were dispatched to 5310 South 30th Street to investigate a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located Antonio and other victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Antonio was transported to a local hospital and died as a result of his injuries.

Sheila Taliaferro lost her 17-year-old son, Antonio S. Taliaferro, in a shooting near 30th and R Streets in 1998. She stated "I haven't had a decent sleep in 23 years." The case was featured on the Omaha Police Department's Cold Cases website, which listed it among 27 homicide cases described as "one tip away" from being solved. Antonio S.
