Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
Lemuel Ray "Lem" Addington was 52 years old when he disappeared from Yreka, the Siskiyou County seat in far northern California. On July 10, 1998, officers of the Yreka Police Department approached him for trespassing at the Amerigas propane yard on Highway 3 in Yreka. After that contact he was last seen walking down Deer Creek toward a field. He has not been seen since. Siskiyou County Search and Rescue conducted many local searches of the area with negative results. Addington had ties to the small town of Dorris in the Butte Valley of eastern Siskiyou County, near the Oregon line. On November 12, 1998, a Dorris resident reported seeing a man believed to be Addington near a Goodwill store in Medford, Oregon. The witness said the man responded to a greeting by name. The sighting was never confirmed. Medford Police were notified and missing-person flyers were posted in the area. There have been no further reported sightings. At the time he disappeared Addington stood 6 feet 1 inch and weighed between 130 and 140 pounds, with brown hair and gray eyes. He may walk with a limp because of an old injury to his left ankle, and he habitually carried a red-handled folding knife and a worn brown wallet and wore a white-metal Nelsonic watch. His case is carried by the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office as a missing-person case and is listed on the sheriff's Unsolved Siskiyou site and in NamUs.
