Summary:
Traci Pittman Kegley disappeared on April 26, 1998, from Elmore County, Alabama. She was last seen at a BP service station near the intersection of Highway 231 North and Redland Road on Sunday afternoon. Her white 1993 Geo Storm was discovered abandoned along Old Georgia Road in Wetumpka the following morning, with her two-year-old daughter left inside unharmed. Foul play is suspected, as it is uncharacteristic of Kegley to abandon her daughter. She has never been heard from again.
Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
On April 26, 1998, Kegley left her residence in Eclectic, traveling to the Maness BP Convenience Store located at the corner of U.S. Highway 231 North and Redland Road in Wetumpka, with her two-year-old daughter. Kegley had her daughter, Peyton, in the car when she stopped at a gas station around 6:30 pm on Sunday, April 26, 1998, to fill up her white Geo Storm's gas tank. Witnesses recalled seeing her at the gas station, but she never returned home and was never seen again. Her white 1993 Geo Storm was discovered abandoned along Old Georgia Road, a secluded road in Wetumpka, Alabama, the following morning. Kegley's two-year-old daughter had been left inside the car, unharmed, and her personal belongings, including her purse and identification, were also recovered at the scene.
Additional Details:
Just sixteen days prior to her disappearance, Kegley's divorce was made final, and she had secured a new job at a dental office in Montgomery and was scheduled to start work the day after she vanished. Kegley is a trained phlebotomist who had worked at the Alabama Reference Laboratory in downtown Montgomery and Russell Medical Center in Alexander City, and had moved in with her mother and mother's husband in their Lake Martin home near Eclectic after separating from her husband in 1998. Cadaver dogs found evidence that a body had been decomposing on 300 acres of land owned by the family of Traci's ex-husband, which was also five to 10 minutes from where her car was found, but they never found that body. On February 25, 2018, a search warrant was executed in Elmore County based on information from confidential sources provided to CrimeStoppers, leading law enforcement to conduct a major search of approximately 300 acres in eastern Elmore County. CrimeStoppers increased the reward to $29,000, and the District Attorney noted all they need now is to know where Traci's body is. The District Attorney stated there is one primary suspect but cannot make an arrest without additional witnesses.
