Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
On Friday, November 19th, 1999, Laresha went to court over a prior physical altercation with an extended family member who had assaulted her. However, her sister Kesha and father Sidney both spoke to her that day and didn't notice anything off about Laresha. She seemed untroubled by the court appearance. She dropped her two-year-old son off at her sister's residence in the 900 block of Gayle Street for the night and said that she planned to drive her car to Murfreesboro, Tennessee the following morning for a mechanical repair estimate. She called her father between 9:30 and 10:00 p.m. Later that night, neighbors saw and heard Walker arguing with an unidentified man in the driveway outside her home in the 3800 block of Edwards Avenue. The two reportedly got into a vehicle together and departed. This would be the last time anyone in the neighborhood remembered seeing Laresha Walker. One of Laresha's sisters checked her residence when Walker failed to contact her loved ones on the following day, November 20, 1999. Her sister found that the lights were turned on inside Walker's home and the stereo was playing loudly. Her sister turned down the volume and left the apartment. Laresha's family checked her home again the following day, November 21. She was nowhere to be found and they summoned the authorities. The clothes Laresha wore on the day of her disappearance were discovered inside of her residence.
Additional Details:
Laresha was employed at Peterbilt Motors Company in Nashville in 1999. Her family said she found the job through a temporary agency, the Nashville Career Advancement Center. She had recently moved into a small duplex on Edwards Avenue in Nashville, where she hoped to build a better life for herself and her son. When her sister went to Laresha's home, she found an odd scene with all of the lights had been left on, music was blasting from the stereo, and there were red splotches on the wall that looked eerily similar to blood. The initial investigation struggled to turn up any substantial evidence or leads. The red spots were tested, but those results are apparently now a mystery as they've been lost from the original case files. There were no reported sightings of Laresha to help establish where she might have gone after leaving with the unidentified man. Furthermore, his identity remained elusive and no one ever came forward to say that they were with her that night. The only detail known about him, based on eyewitness reports, is that he was a Black man. No other description was given. Detective Matthew Filter noted: "It's very rare that we have a missing person case and we never find the car they were last seen in. It usually always turns up." Metro police believed Laresha, a 23-year-old mother, was abducted. The FBI's behavior analysis unit is now working on the case with Metro police. Laresha's mother, Wanda Faye Walker, disappeared from Nashville in 2016, seventeen years after Laresha did. She has never been found. Investigators haven't found any indication that the two cases are related.
