Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Offense:
Lisa Mack was found brutally murdered in Iron Mountain Michigan on May 15th, 1999 after she had closed a local bar where she was a bartender of 8 years. A bartender was discovered stabbed to death inside Mayme's Bar in Iron Mountain. On May 15th, 1999, Melissa Opsahl was driving to Illinois to meet her new niece, and on her way out of town, she drove past Mayme's Bar in Iron Mountain, Michigan, where her Aunt Lisa Mack had been bartending the night before. They saw the light on at the bar, and figured she must have forgotten to turn the light off.
Additional Details:
The mother of two was just about to turn 35, and it was Mother's Day weekend. Rallund Lee Ottlinger remains the only person of interest after several individuals were questioned in the investigation and all other suspects were ruled out to the best of investigators' ability. Ottlinger is incarcerated in the Oshkosh Correctional Institution in Wisconsin for the rape of a Sheboygan woman in 2006. Ottlinger lived in Iron Mountain at the time of the murder, and investigators believe Mack knew him as a Mayme's Bar patron. Ottlinger also did prison time in Michigan from 2000 to 2005 for criminal sexual conduct-assault, with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct second-degree, after pleading no contest to the charges. The motive behind the killing and the details remain unknown, and the case remains open.
