Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Death:

September 25, 2000, fell during fall break, meaning children in the county were home from school. That morning seemed ordinary enough—Christopher's family members left for their daily routines, leaving the 11-year-old home alone. His father came home around 11am for lunch. He then left an hour later. He would then leave work early and arrive home around 2 pm. Christopher did not come running to greet him as usual. Carl noticed that the dishwasher racks had been removed and moved to a bedroom or bed. In the kitchen, he saw Christopher's clothes — the ones he had been wearing — placed next to the dishwasher. Instead of the dishwasher racks, there was Christopher's body—wet, naked, and bearing signs of having been beaten. Someone had turned on the machine and ran an entire cleaning cycle.

Additional Details:

Military police, local Wichita Falls law enforcement, and federal agents responded to the home. Early suspicion reportedly falls on Christopher's father. He is questioned extensively, though never charged. Ashley has publicly defended her father and said she believes his grief and shock were genuine, and that he was wrongfully treated as the primary suspect while other possible avenues were not fully explored. More than twenty years after his death, the official cause remains "undetermined," and no individual has been publicly identified by law enforcement as responsible. The autopsy report would later confirm that Christopher had sustained significant injuries, but there was no clear consensus on whether these were inflicted before or after his death. The mysterious handprint on the dishwasher did not match any family member. In the years since, Christopher's surviving family members have appealed to the public numerous times. Christopher was laid to rest in Oak Hill Memorial Park in McAlester, Oklahoma, far from where his life was tragically cut short.
