Vicky Glass was last seen around 4am on Union Street, Middlesbrough, on 24th September 2000. Her body was found in a stream in the village of Danby in North Yorkshire in November 2000. She had been murdered just days after her 21st birthday.

Vicky had just turned 21 when she disappeared from Middlesbrough on September 24, 2000. At 4am on Sunday September 24, 2000, Vicky was dropped off by a taxi on Union Street, Middlesbrough, at the junction with Eshwood Square. Detectives believe the Vicky was picked up shortly after in the red light district and killed within hours. CCTV footage shows Ms Glass with a friend in the Cannon Park area of Middlesbrough hours before being dropped off by the taxi. Cleveland Police has spoken to the friend who said shortly before the footage was taken Ms Glass engaged in a conversation with a lorry driver who provided her with some money. Her body was found in a stream in the North Yorkshire village of Danby, around a 40 minute drive from Middlesbrough, six weeks later on November 3. Vicky Glass was found dead on a moor on 3 November 2000 by a dog walker in a stream, six weeks after she disappeared after a night out.

Vicky had turned to sex work to fund a crippling drug habit. Described as "loving and caring" by her family, Vicky had refused to let a hearing impairment hold her back and was a member in her local jazz band throughout her teens. But tragically, as a vulnerable 18-year-old, she was led down a path into drug abuse and subsequently became a victim of sexual exploitation. Four people have been arrested in connection with Ms Glass's murder since 2000, but all were released without charge. In early 2001, a 39-year-old lorry driver from the Grimsby area was arrested in connection with her death. He was questioned for nearly 14 hours before being released without charge. Then in January 2002, a 47-year-old man was arrested and held at Northallerton police station but he was also released without charge. Cleveland Police continue to investigate the murder of Vicky Glass and in 2021 a detailed review was carried out of the case. In 2022, officers returned to Danby to re-launch an appeal to the community for information. Tragically, Vicky's mother Deborah Goodall died in 2015 without ever getting those answers. A 65-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in June 2026. The man was arrested in the Lancashire area on Friday morning and remains in police custody pending interview by Cleveland Police officers. The identity of a lorry driver who was seen with murdered Vicky Glass in the hours before her disappearance remains unknown 23 years after her body was found. The police described the lorry driver as: Broad build. Distinctive mole on his face. Senior investigating officer, Detective Superintendent Peter Carr, said extensive enquiries have been carried out in the murder investigation, including viewing over 2,000 hours of CCTV footage and using up-to-date forensic methods to try to enhance DNA.
