Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance:

Paul Robert Pierson was 50 years old when he disappeared in the Siskiyou Wilderness of the Klamath National Forest, in the far western corner of Siskiyou County near the Del Norte County line. He was backpacking with a group in the area of Rattlesnake Meadows and Preston Peak, the 7,309-foot summit that dominates the wilderness, roughly 20 miles west of Happy Camp. On July 7, 2000, while the group was climbing the western side of Preston Peak, Pierson hiked ahead of his companions. He never rejoined them and has not been seen since. The sheriff's office lists Happy Camp, the nearest town, as the place he was last seen. He was last seen wearing beige pants, a white windbreaker, dark brown hiking boots, white gloves and a wide-brimmed tan hat, and was carrying a day pack. He was described as 5 feet 9 or 10 inches tall and about 160 pounds, with short brown hair, sideburns and blue eyes. No contemporary news coverage of the search could be located, and the sheriff's office has not published details of search efforts. The case remains open with the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office and is listed on the sheriff's Unsolved Siskiyou site and in NamUs.
