Summary:

Herbert Perez Maldonado is wanted for the homicide of 29-year-old Lori Mejia. Herbert met Lori at a party and left with her to pay for sex. Instead, Herbert allegedly beat and stabbed Lori to death. Her body was found with some of her hair torn off her head. Authorities narrowly missed taking Herbert into their custody. He was driven to Dallas so he could take a bus to Mexico. He may still be in Mexico but there was a potential sighting of him in Johnson County, Texas in 2021.

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Offense:

As of this posting, Denton County’s court records database confirms that Herbert has an active murder warrant. Herbert was also profiled in a 2025 podcast by Denton County Crime Stoppers.

Additional Details:

Anyone with information on Herbert’s whereabouts should contact Denton County Crime Stoppers (to be eligible for the reward) at 1-800-388-TIPS (8477). Herbert should be considered very dangerous. Please consider sharing this so that Lori’s family can get justice and answers in their loved one’s case. Out of respect to her family, Lori’s story and case should not be defined because she was a sex worker at the time of her homicide. Her story should be treated with dignity and respect. I commend Denton County Crime Stoppers for understanding that.
