Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Offense:

On November 27, 2002, prosecutors say Sheikh forced his way into a second-story apartment in the 7500 block of 146th Street Southwest in Lakewood at 3 a.m. Court records cite a motive rooted in a domestic dispute two days before the shooting. On November 25, 2002, Hattie York and her boyfriend—a friend of Sheikh's—got into a physical fight at York's apartment, and Ricky Sinclair intervened to break it up. Sheikh is accused of forcing his way into a unit at the Meadowbrook Apartments on 146th Street Southwest on November 27, 2002. Prosecutors say he fatally shot Ricky six times in the back of the head. He's also accused of shooting the victim's girlfriend in her back and leg.

Additional Details:

A local arrest warrant was issued in Pierce County Superior Court on November 27, 2002, after Sheikh was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and first-degree burglary. A federal arrest warrant followed on December 9, 2002, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington in Tacoma, charging Sheikh with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. A man named Mohamud Abdullahi Mohamed, who was with Sheikh when he allegedly committed the shooting, and fled with him after, pleaded guilty to one count of rendering criminal assistance. He was sentenced to 13 months in prison. The original reward amount was $2,500 and was increased to $20,000 in 2022. The FBI has increased its reward from $20,000 to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest of Liban Abdulkadir Sheikh. FBI officials said Sheikh was later seen in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He also has ties to, or may have traveled to: Columbus, Ohio; Surrey and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Oslo, Norway; London, England; and Somalia. Please consider sharing this so that Ricky’s family can get justice and answers in their loved one’s case.
