In late 2005, police found some of Pitzer's belongings in mining areas in the Mohave Desert, about thirty miles from Newberry Springs. This is a very remote area. Pitzer's suitcase and clothes were scattered at various locations over a three-mile radius. One of her nightgowns was hanging in a mining shack; it had been tied in a hangman's noose and pieces of duct tape were present.
