Summary:
Craig Allen Frear was a 17-year-old white male who disappeared on June 27, 2004, near Cambridge Manor apartments in Scotia, New York. He had just finished his junior year at Scotia-Glenville High School and was co-captain of the soccer team. He has never been found.
Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
Craig was last seen at approximately 2:00 p.m. on June 27, 2004, near the Cambridge Manor apartment complex in Scotia, New York. He had visited a friend in the complex and was afterward seen walking into the woods nearby. He said he was going to his parents' house, which was located in a cul-de-sac on Yorkshire Court, but never arrived there. Craig left his car in the complex's parking lot. He wasn't carrying his cellular phone at the time he went missing. Craig's mother reported him missing that evening after he failed to return home to Glenville, New York as expected. Frear disappeared on June 27, 2004, after speaking with his mother on the phone at 10:17 a.m. The day of his disappearance, his family found out he'd lost his job at the Price Chopper supermarket, a position he'd held for about two months. He had been pretending to work there for weeks after his termination so his parents wouldn't know he was no longer employed.
Additional Details:
State police joined the investigation in 2006, after it was initially handled by local agencies. They tracked 400 leads, have given polygraph tests to his friends and family, and have conducted hundreds of interviews. Ground searches with cadaver dogs have been conducted in the area he was last seen, and the Mohawk River has been searched, but no trace of Craig has been found. Retired New York State Police Investigator Gloria Coppola led the Frear investigation for nine years. Investigator Kevin Noto of the New York State Police has been handling the Frear investigation since 2015. A coworker reported seeing Frear between June 27 and July 2 in the passenger seat of a car heading north on State Route 50 in Glenville. It stopped at the traffic light at the intersection with Sheffield Road and then turned left. New York State Police said on the 21st anniversary of his disappearance that they are continuing concentrated efforts to find Frear and bring him home. His Social Security number has not been used since his disappearance, indicating that he has not paid taxes, opened a bank account, or applied for a job anywhere in the United States. Both Craig's mother, Veronica, and older brother Matthew have found hope and purpose through the Ride for Missing Children. Matthew Frear is now one of the leaders of the ride.
