Missing From:
Estevan, Saskatchewan
Summary:
Courtney Jenell Struble, 13, disappeared on July 9, 2004, while walking home from a friend's house near the Estevan Veterinary Clinic in Estevan, Saskatchewan. After initially treating the case as a runaway, the RCMP's Historical Case Unit determined in 2010 that her disappearance constitutes a homicide. She has never been located.
Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
On July 9, 2004, Courtney was watching a movie with friends at the Estevan Veterinary Clinic on the western outskirts of Estevan. Around 11:30 p.m., when it was time for her to leave, she declined a ride home from her friends and chose to walk instead. She was last seen at approximately 12:30 a.m. in the vicinity of Highway 39 and Woodlawn Avenue North (now Sister Roddy Road) in west Estevan. She was heading toward her father's residence in the city. Courtney never arrived home. Her father reported her missing the following day. She was wearing a grey bunny hug (hooded sweatshirt), blue jeans, and running shoes at the time of her disappearance.
Additional Details:
Courtney's case was initially treated as a runaway by the Estevan Police Service, likely to protect her reputation. However, there were significant indicators of foul play. None of her personal belongings were taken from her home, including her wallet, clothes, and stuffed animals. Her bank account and Saskatchewan Health Card showed no activity after she disappeared. She had a part-time job cleaning a friend's home and had made plans to see friends in the coming days, indicating her disappearance was unplanned and involuntary. In 2009, the Estevan Police Service requested the RCMP's Historical Case Unit conduct an independent review. By April 2010, after re-interviewing numerous witnesses and starting the investigation from scratch, the RCMP determined that Courtney was likely the victim of a homicide. The RCMP believes she made it safely back into Estevan after leaving the veterinary clinic, and investigators believe her remains are likely located somewhere in or around the city. As of 2024-2026, the case remains open and active with the Saskatchewan RCMP Historical Case Unit working in conjunction with the Estevan Police Service. Over 60 investigators have worked the case since 2004, with hundreds of interviews conducted and numerous tips and reported sightings investigated, though none have led to her location. In 2022, Courtney's image and information were featured on digital billboards and social media as part of Project HOME (Help Our Missing Emerge). The case continues to receive attention during National Missing Children's Day and missing persons awareness campaigns.
