Oranjestad, Aruba
Case Disposition:
On October 17th, 2023, the longtime suspected killer in the Natalee Holloway case- Joran van der Sloot - finally confessed to her killing. He will not be charged in her death as Alabama nor the United States have jurisdiction over the case. Unfortunately, in Aruba where the killing took place, there is a 12-year statue of limitations which has long passed. This case is now classified as a closed case. Joran described Natalee refusing his sexual advances which led to him assaulting her on the beach close to where she was staying. Joran then described using a nearby cinderblock to murder her and he then pushed her body into the sea. Joran provided this confession as part of a plea deal to his extortion case against the family. The extortion charges will run concurrent to a murder charge in Peru that Joran is serving time for. The Peru murder occurred after Natalee's murder. Natalee's remains have never been found.
Summary:
Natalee vanished on May 30th, 2005 in Aruba. Holloway lived in Mountain Brook, Alabama and graduated from Mountain Brook High School on May 24, 2005- just days before the trip. Her remains have never been found.

Circumstances of Disappearance:
On Thursday, May 26th, 2005, Holloway and 124 fellow graduates of Mountain Brook High School arrived in Aruba for a five-day, unofficial graduation trip. The teenagers were accompanied by seven chaperones. She left in a car with 17-year-old Joran van der Sloot — a Dutch honors student who was living in Aruba and attending the International School of Aruba along with his two Surinamese friends, brothers 21-year-old Deepak Kalpoe (the owner of the car) and 18-year-old Satish Kalpoe. Holloway was scheduled to fly home later that day but she did not appear for her return flight. Her packed luggage and her passport were found in her Holiday Inn room. Holloway was legally declared dead on January 12th, 2012.
