Pea Ridge, Arkansas
Summary:
April Dawn Andrews, 15, was last seen on November 18, 2006, after leaving her home at King Lane Apartments in Pea Ridge, Arkansas, to look at clothes the church was giving away at Pea Ridge Church of the Nazarene. She never made it there, and was last seen by an eight-year-old girl who said she saw April speaking with a white male in an older model brown pickup truck before appearing to enter it. April vanished almost two decades ago and her disappearance remains a mystery.
Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance:
On November 18, 2006, April told her mother she was going to Pea Ridge Church of the Nazarene, down the street from her family's home at King Lane Apartments in Pea Ridge, Arkansas, to look at clothes the church was giving away. She never made it there. The last person to see her was an eight-year-old girl, who said she saw April speaking with a white male in a beat-up, older model, full-size, single-cab brown pickup truck, which had just pulled up beside her. April—for all appearances willingly—entered the truck before it pulled away, going south. Her mother reported her missing that evening.
Additional Details:
At the time of her disappearance, April had few friends and was being bullied at school. April's father, Clarence Thomas Andrews, passed away in 2002 when April was 11. Her father and mother, Tina, were divorced when April was only 4 years old. Tina married again, and the family moved to a house in Springdale and then to the Pea Ridge apartment complex. Impoverished, they couldn't afford a phone and didn't have a car. Her mother wasn't employed, so they relied on government assistance. April had a learning disability, which contributed to her shyness. She was not the type of person to jump in a car with somebody she doesn't know and was shy and timid around strangers. Initially, Pea Ridge officials classified April as an endangered runaway. It was three years before they listed her as a missing person, and three years after that, they turned the investigation over to the Benton County Sheriff's Office. It was evident she did not run away because there were no means to do so; no circle of friends to enable her, no social media at that point in time to connect with anybody, and no cellphones. In 2013, an anonymous letter led investigators to a pond in Benton County. Investigators drained it and dug through the mud but still found no April. The case took an unusual turn when Sgt. Cerilla Doyle of the Pea Ridge Police Department, who took the initial report on April's disappearance, herself disappeared on October 27, 2008. She was last seen alive buying a bus ticket at a Rogers gas station on October 28. Her skeletal remains were found in Mason City, Iowa, in 2018. Investigators stated that the two disappearances are not connected. There have been unconfirmed sightings of her in northwest Arkansas since her disappearance.
